SYSTEM TECHNIQUE DIFFERENCES
Deep Water Culture
This hydroponic system incorporates a container or reservoir filled with appropriate nutrients that get absorbed into the root of the plants that hang down inside the reservoir. The plants will absorb the water and nutrients as they need it. Some of the platforms are floating and some are stationary.
Nutrient Film Technique (NFT)
NFT systems are a system where the plants root system will hang in a constant stream of nutrient solution. The roots will pick up what they need allowing oxygen to infuse the suspended roots.
EBB and Flood
This method uses a flooding and draining system to give the plants the nutrients needed. You simply move the water and nutrients to the roots of the plant by flooding them before draining the excess nutrient solution back out again.
This variation of hydroponics is more complex, but very effective. The plant roots are continually fed with a vapour solution in the atmosphere and aren’t anchored on any medium, exposing them to air all of the time. The available systems on the market are mostly used in propogation due to technical complexities involved in maintaining the system.
